Hancher presents Tower of Power at Riverside Casino & Golf Resort March 2

With 43 years of recording and touring experience behind them, Tower of Power will be melding soul, jazz, funk, and rock at the Riverside Casino Golf & Resort Event Center on Friday, March 2 at 7:30 p.m. The performance is presented by the University of Iowa’s Hancher.

Tower of Power, which has recently released a 40th anniversary CD/DVD box set and an album titled The Great American Soul Book, is well known for tunes such as “What is Hip?” and “You're Still a Young Man.” The group has toured with acts including Santana, Sly Stone, and Credence Clearwater Revival and performed on records with Elton John, Smokey Robinson, and Aerosmith, among others. Tower of Power continues to garners rave reviews as the band pursues an ambitious worldwide touring schedule.

The California Music Association recently honored the 10-piece unit with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Band Members are Adolfo Acosta, trumpet; Larry Braggs, lead vocalist; Emilio Castillo, bandleader, second tenor sax, and vocals; Jerry Cortez, guitar; David Garibaldi, drums; Sal Cracchiolo, trumpet and trombone; Stephen "Doc" Kupka, baritone sax; Tom Politzer, lead tenor sax; Rocco Prestia, bass; and Roger Smith, keyboards.

Tickets are $38-42; college student, $10-37.80; senior citizen, $34.20-37.80; youth, $19-21--available from Hancher Box Office. The Hancher Box Office, located on the first floor of the south end of the Old Capitol Mall near the parking ramp, is open for phone (319-335-1160 or 800-HANCHER) or walk-up business from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays.
