University of Iowa News Release

Sept. 20, 2011

Tickets remain for the 10 p.m. Joey DeFrancesco Trio Sept. 29 'Club Hancher' event at The Mill

The new "Club Hancher" series has proven popular right off the bat. Tickets for two of the three Club Hancher performances are sold out. Tickets remain for the 10 p.m. performance by the Joey DeFrancesco Trio on Thursday, Sept. 29, at The Mill, 120 E. Burlington St. in Iowa City.

The 7:30 p.m. performance by the B-3 organ legend is sold out, as is the Dec. 8 Club Hancher performance by jazz singer Catherine Russell. Russell will also perform as part of the American Beauty Project — a reimagining of two seminal Grateful Dead albums — which Hancher will present at the Riverside Casino & Golf Resort Event Center on Friday, Dec. 9. Tickets remain for the American Beauty Project.

Hancher is encouraging area jazz fans to celebrate the music by attending "The Miles Davis Experience, 1949-1959," featuring trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire, at the Englert Theatre on Sept. 29 at 8 p.m. before venturing over to The Mill. Purchasing tickets for the Englert performance entitles audience members to purchase $10 tickets (a 50 percent discount) to the 10 p.m. Joey DeFrancesco concert while space remains.

The Club Hancher performances are supported by the Hancher Partners and gifts to Hancher Circle through the University of Iowa Foundation.

Tickets for the Joey DeFrancesco Trio are $20; college students $10; senior citizens $20 -- all available from the Hancher Box Office.

The Hancher Box Office, located on the first floor of the south end of the Old Capitol Town Center near the parking ramp, is open for phone, 319-335-1160 or 800-HANCHER, or walk-up business from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays. Tickets may be ordered online at http://www.hancher.uiowa.edu/. Any remaining tickets will be available for sale at The Mill.
