UI Hospitals and Clinics ranks yet again among national elite
University of Iowa Health Care leaders announced this morning that UI Hospitals and Clinics again appears on a prestigious list of the leading hospitals in the United States.
"The Best Hospitals in America" listing is compiled annually by U.S.News & World Report.
At UI Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa's only comprehensive academic medical center, nine specialties are ranked overall.
--Otolaryngology (ear, nose and throat), 5th.
--Ophthalmology and visual sciences (eyes), 6th.
--Orthopaedics and rehabilitation, 12th.
Jean Robillard, M.D., vice president for medical affairs with UI Health Care, said, "These rankings confirm that the faculty and staff at UI Hospitals and Clinics provide patient care that rates among the best in the nation."
The news comes after word arrived earlier this year that University of Iowa Children's Hospital was ranked in 10 specialties by the same publication.
"Achieving such high ratings in 19 specialties is just simply remarkable, said Paul Rothman, MD, dean of the UI Roy J. and Lucille Carver College of Medicine. "It's clear that the University of Iowa is a member of a truly elite group."
"Our faculty and staff are superior, and they richly deserve this national recognition of their skill and dedication," said Kenneth Kates, associate vice president of UI Health Care and CEO of UI Hospitals and Clinics.
Health professionals caution that patients should not make decisions about their health care based solely upon such rankings. They should instead consider an array of factors and consult their physicians.
