UI visiting artist Richard Rezac presents free lecture Jan. 27

Richard Rezac, a guest of the University of Iowa School of Art and Art History, will present a free lecture at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, in Room 101 of Biology Building East on the UI campus.

Since the mid-1980s Rezac has primarily made object-sculptures, abstract in form and using a variety of materials, and he has also executed numerous site-specific public commissions. He teaches painting and sculpture at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

He has received the John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship, a Rome Prize Fellowship at the American Academy in Rome, a Joan Mitchell Foundation Award, a Louis Comfort Tiffany Award and the Doran Artist Residency Fellowship at Yale University.

In addition to recent solo exhibitions in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles, his work has been included in group exhibitions at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., the Art Institute of Chicago, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, the Tang Museum at Skidmore College, the Yale University Art Gallery and the Kunstverein Recklinghausen in Germany.

His sculpture is in the collections including the Art Institute of Chicago, the Dallas Museum of Art, Yale University and the Smart Museum of Art.
