UI Foundation, university receive ADDY awards

Marketing and communication projects from the University of Iowa Foundation and the University of Iowa have earned ADDY awards from the American Advertising Federation of Cedar Rapids-Iowa City.

The awards recognize creative excellence in advertising and promotional materials. Winners were announced at the annual ADDY Awards Gala Feb. 18 in Cedar Rapids.

The UI Foundation received the competition’s top honor, the Best of Show Award, for “Phil Was Here --The 2010 Annual Report on Giving to The University of Iowa Foundation.” The online report also received Best in Category honors for interactive media and an ADDY Gold Award.

Project staff included Nic Arp, Jill Tobin, Eric Hodgson, Connie Driscoll-Wicke, Danette Angerer, Jen Knights, Leah Klevar, Betsy Hickok and Chris Beckman. The report is online at http://www.uifoundation.org/phil/.

Other top awards included Best of Category (elements of advertising) and ADDY Gold Awards to the Office of University Relations for “Kid Captain Close-up,” a photograph by Kirk Murray. To view the "Kid Captain Close-up," visit http://spectator.uiowa.edu/2010/october/kidcaptain.html.

Sondra Cue, graphic designer for University Relations, was named Ad Person of the Year, while LeeAnn Eddins, graphic designer for UI Health Care, was named Service Person of the Year.

Additional Gold ADDYs went to the following UI departments:
--University of Iowa Health Care, “IOWA World Class People. World Class Medicine.” annual report;
--IMU Marketing and Design, Bijou Cinema mass-transit poster;
--IMU Marketing and Design, Engineers for a Sustainable World website;
--IMU Marketing and Design, Iowa City Book Festival campaign;
--IMU Marketing and Design, Commission Against Laziness campaign;
--IMU Marketing and Design, Martin Luther King, Jr., illustration.

Silver ADDYs included:
--University of Iowa Health Care, Organ Transplant Center brochure;
--IMU Marketing and Design, Division of Performing Arts website;
--IMU Marketing and Design, Museum of Art website;
--IMU Marketing and Design, Iowa City Book Festival logo by Sara Lenger;
--University Relations, “Kinnick Stadium” photograph by Tim Schoon.
