University of Iowa News Release

Feb. 8, 2011

Schubert piano trios featured in Hancher concert by Finckel, Han, Setzer on Feb. 24

For nearly 200 years, Franz Schubert’s two piano trios have been among the best-loved classical works. Both pieces will be performed by cellist David Finckel, pianist Wu Han and violinist Philip Setzer in a concert presented by the University of Iowa’s Hancher at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, at the Riverside Recital Hall (formerly St. Thomas More Church on Riverside Drive in Iowa City).

The three musicians have a long association with each other. Finckel and Setzer are members of the renowned Emerson String Quartet. Finckel and Han are married, have toured together for nearly two decades, and play an influential role within the classical music world as artistic directors of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. They are also creators of the online record label ArtistLed (http://www.artistled.com). Following ArtistLed’s release of the Schubert Piano Trios in 2008, Finckel, Han and Setzer have been performing them across North America.

All three musicians are favorites of Hancher audiences, having performed under the auspices of the presenting organization many times. The event is supported by the Hancher Partners and gifts to Hancher Circle through the University of Iowa Foundation.

Tickets are $40; college student, $10; senior citizen, $36; youth, $20–available from the Hancher Box Office.

The Hancher Box Office, located on the first floor of the south end of the Old Capitol Mall near the parking ramp, is open for phone (319-335-1160 or 800-HANCHER) or walk-up business from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays. Tickets may be ordered online at http://www.hancher.uiowa.edu. Any remaining tickets will be available for sale one hour before show time at the Riverside Recital Hall.
