Third annual Ponseti races set for October 1

The Third Annual Ponseti Clubfoot Races will be held on Saturday, Oct. 1, beginning at 9 a.m. near the University of Iowa Sports Medicine Center located at 2701 Prairie Meadow Drive in Iowa City. The event honors the memory of world-renowned orthopedic pioneer and surgeon, Ignacio Ponseti, M.D. Proceeds benefit research and treatment of clubfoot, a genetic disorder that causes the feet to turn inward and downward.

Clubfoot is the most common physical disability in newborns.

Ponseti developed a nonsurgical procedure that corrects clubfoot through a series of plaster casts. The Ponseti Method achieves better results and costs less than surgical treatment.

More information about the event is available online at: http://www.uiortho.com/races.
