Media Advisory: Floodwall being installed at Art Building West
WHAT: Contractors are installing 900 linear feet of floodwall around the University of Iowa's Art Building West, one of dozens of UI facilities damaged or destroyed by the floods of 2008. This is a drill to test the assembly of the reusable aluminum planks and vertical supports that will be deployed around the building as needed if floodwaters threaten. When erected, the wall will reach 12 feet at its highest point. After assembling the entire structure, the components will be dismantled and stored on campus.
WHEN: 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 5.
WHERE: Art Building West is located on North Riverside Drive. Metered parking is available at the Theatre Building, just north of Music West Interim Building (Museum of Art).
WHO: UI officials will be on site to answer questions during the media availability, including Dan Heater, director of Building and Landscape Services with UI Facilities Management, and Dean Dykstra, construction project manager with UI Facilities Management.
