UI WISE program awards travel grants
 
The University of Iowa Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) program has announced spring semester award recipients of its Dr. Eunice Schuytema Beam Travel Grant Program.
 
The award winners, each of whom will receive an individual award of $300 or a joint award of $150 toward travel to a professional meeting to present scholarly work, are:
 
IOWA

Dunlap: Melissa Lehan Mackin, a doctoral student in the College of Nursing studying unintended pregnancy, will give a presentation at the 7th International Congress of Qualitative Inquiry (ICQI) May 18-21 in Urbana-Champaign, Ill. Her presentation is titled "Influences of the Social Context on Unintended Pregnancy and Pregnancy Prevention in College Women."
 
CHINA

Ningbo, Zhejiang: Yi He, a doctoral student in the College of Education studying educational measurement and statistics, gave a presentation at the 2011 Annual Meeting of the National Council on Measurement in Education (NCME) held April 7-11 in New Orleans, La. Her presentation was titled "A Comparison of Mixed-Format Equating Methods Using Equating Properties."

Zibo, Shandong: Jingyang Zhang, a doctoral student in the College of Public Health studying biostatistics, gave a presentation at the International Biometric Society: Eastern North American Region 2011 Spring Meeting Mar. 20-23 in Miami. Her presentation was titled "A Sequential Diagnostic Method Based on Multiple Diagnostic Tests without a Gold Standard."

CROATIA

Osijek: Jelena Stojakovic, a doctoral student in the College of Chemistry studying organic chemistry, will give an invited talk at the Annual Meeting of the American Crystallographic from May 28 through June 2 in New Orleans, La. Her presentation is titled "Supramolecular Catalysis in the Organic Solid State."

KOREA

Seoul: Mijin Jang, a doctoral student in the College of Public Health studying biostatistics, gave a presentation at the International Biometric Society: Eastern North American Region 2011 Spring Meeting held March 20-23 in Miami. Her presentation was titled "Working Correlation Selection in GEE."

SRI LANKA

Colombo: Imali Ama Mudunkotuwa: a doctoral student in the College of Chemistry studying chemistry, gave a presentation at the 241st American Chemical Society National Meeting and Exposition held March 27-31 in Anaheim, Calif. Her presentation was titled "Organic Acid Absorption on Engineered Metal and Metal Oxide Nanoparticles in Aqueous Suspensions."

THAILAND

Nakhon Si Thammarat: Supitcha Talungchit, a doctoral student in the College of Dentistry studying operative dentistry-oral science, gave a presentation at the 89th General Session and Exhibition of the International Association for Dental Research March 16-19 in San Diego, Calif. Her presentation was titled "Effect of Photoinitiator on Adhesive Resin Conversion and Dentin Bonding."
