UI Museum of Art to host annual fundraiser Oct. 16
The Museum Party!, the annual fundraiser for the University of Iowa Museum of Art (UIMA), will be held Saturday, Oct. 16, from 8 to 11 p.m. at the Coralville Marriott Hotel and Convention Center.
Organized by the UIMA Members Council, the Museum Party! provides annual private support for the UIMA’s exhibitions, programs, and activities through sponsorship opportunities. Guests will learn about the UIMA’s plans for 2011 and can choose one or more projects or artworks to sponsor, either through an outright gift or a pledge paid over the year.
Over the past two years, this Members Council event has raised more than $300,000.
Tickets for the Museum Party! are on sale now for $100, of which $75 is a tax-deductible donation. For reservations, please call 319-335-1725. For those not able to attend the event, donations are welcome.
This year’s event is themed around the groundbreaking and eccentric artist, Lil Picard, in anticipation of the UIMA exhibition Lil Picard and Counterculture New York, opening in the Iowa Memorial Union’s Black Box Theater Feb. 24, 2011. Willard "Sandy" L. and Susan Boyd are honorary chairs for the event. Sandy Boyd is interim UIMA director.
“My hope is that this party generates excitement throughout the community and brings more people than ever to the exhibition—and also to our next party,” said Kristin Hardy, Museum Party! co-chair.
Hardy and other party planners have arranged to have a photo booth at the event. In keeping with the Lil Picard theme, guests can have their pictures taken dressed as Lil Picard, using wigs, boas, and sunglasses. Inspired by the artist’s work Burned Tie, charred ties will also be available to wear throughout the evening. The pictures taken in the photo booth will be projected throughout the evening and will qualify participants to enter for various prizes.
James P. Hayes is this year’s Party! sponsor. This year’s hosts are: Alan and Liz Swanson; Gerald and Leesa Elseman; Gerry Ambrose and Kristin Hardy; H.D. and Myrene Hoover; Lowell Doud; Kristin Summerwill; Margaret C. Clancy; Mary Westbrook; Neumann Monson Architects; Oaknoll Retirement Residence; Phelan, Tucker, Mullen, Walker, Tucker, & Gelman, L.L.P.; Pleasant Valley Flower Shoppe; Rob and Paulina Muzzin; Rohrbach Associates P.C. Architects; Sandy and Susan Boyd; Shive-Hattery, Architecture-Engineering; and Whitedog Imported Auto Repair and Sales.
