UI Department of Dance presents Dance Gala 2010 Oct. 28 through Nov. 7
The University of Iowa Department of Dance will present the 2010 Dance Gala -- its major annual production -- at 8 p.m. Oct. 28-30 and Nov. 4-6, and at 2 p.m. Oct. 31 and Nov. 7, in the Space Place Theatre of the UI's North Hall. The department is celebrating the 35th anniversary of the Dance Gala, and has dedicated the production to David Nelson, the founding director of the UI Division of Performing Arts, who recently passed away.
The program will feature choreography by dance faculty members Deanna Carter, Charlotte Adams, Eloy Barragan, Jennifer Kayle and Armando Duarte.
Carter's ballet, "Into Autumn," set to music by Vivaldi, was premiered on tour by Ballet West II, which performed in Eastern Iowa in September through the sponsorship of Hancher.
The 2010 Dance Gala features costume design by Margaret Wenk and lighting design by Laurel Shoemaker.
For the Dance Gala parking is free in the North Campus ramp.
Tickets are $20, $5 for UI students with a valid UI ID, $15 for senior citizens and $10 for youth. They may be purchased in advance from the Hancher box office in the University Capitol Centre.
The box office is open for phone (319-335-1160 or 800-HANCHER) or walk-up business from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays. Tickets may be ordered online 24/7 at http://www.hancher.uiowa.edu.
