Collotons become College of Public Health Founding Partners

With an additional gift of $40,000 to the University of Iowa College of Public Health, John W. and Mary Ann Colloton of Coralville, Iowa, have become the college's most recent Founding Partners.

Founding Partners are individuals, families and organizations who share the College of Public Health's commitment to improving health outcomes and enhancing community health and have made contributions of $250,000 or more to assist the college in becoming a world-class leader in public health teaching, research and service.

The Collotons' gift, which supplements their previous donations to the College of Public Health, is designated for use at the discretion of UI College of Public Dean Sue Curry in completing the college's new academic building. The $47.7 million facility, currently under construction, is scheduled for completion in fall 2011. It will provide classrooms and gathering space for the more than 380 students enrolled in public health degree programs, as well as offices for faculty in the college's five academic departments and core administrative staff.

"John and Mary Ann are among the most generous supporters of this university and of our college in particular," said Curry. To date, the Collotons have donated more than $1.5 million to the UI. "We are extraordinarily grateful for their remarkable leadership and commitment, which is helping to ensure that College of Public Health students, faculty and staff will have a state-of-the-art facility in which to learn, teach and work."

John Colloton is director emeritus of the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and Mary Ann Colloton, a graduate of the College of Nursing, is currently a volunteer at UI Hospitals and Clinics.
