President Obama to give speech at UI Thursday

The White House has confirmed that U.S. President Barack Obama will discuss the new health insurance reform legislation passed by Congress this week during a speech on the University of Iowa campus Thursday, March 25.

The event is scheduled for 1 p.m. in the UI's Field House. Members of the general public wishing to attend this event should visit the following website to register for the opportunity to attend: http://www.whitehouse.gov/webform/rsvp/university-iowa-100325. The website will be available until 4 p.m. Central Time (5 p.m. Eastern Time), Tuesday, March 23.

Due to limited space at the event, the White House will only be able to fulfill a limited number of requests for tickets. Please note that filling out this form does not guarantee a ticket to this event. Filling out this form qualifies registrants to be selected for a ticket.

Doors for the event will open at 11 a.m. CT. Further details about the event will be given to individuals selected to pick up tickets.

At 4 p.m. CT Tuesday, March 23, when the online signup has expired, a limited number of individuals will be selected and contacted by phone regarding ticket pickup information. Each individual selected will have the opportunity to pick up a maximum of two tickets.

Please note that the White House will not be able to respond to all requests for tickets. Only those selected to pick up a ticket will be contacted.

Details about press coverage of the open press airport arrival, departure and remarks at the Field House are below. The airport arrival and departure are closed to the public.

Below are details about President Obama's visit for media planning to cover the event Thursday:

Air Force One Arrival and Departure:

DHL Cargo Carrier at the Eastern Iowa Airport

Live Truck Pre-Set: 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. CT  (NOTE: Media will not have access to equipment from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. CT)

Media Access: 10:45 a.m. CT (All members of the media who attend the event must check in at the DHL Cargo Facility.  Names and IDs will be checked.  All media must be escorted onto the tarmac.  If members of the media have not arrived by 10:45 a.m., they will not be able to cover the event.)  

Air Force One Scheduled Arrival: 12:05 p.m. CT

Air Force One Scheduled Departure: 2:35 p.m. CT

Throw: 150 ft.  

Cable run: 500 ft.

Media Parking: Media may park in the Admin Parking Lot next to the DHL Cargo Facility.  

Live Truck Parking: Live trucks should arrive at the DHL Cargo Facility.  They will be escorted onto the tarmac from this location.

Media entrance: All media should arrive and park in the Admin Parking Lot, adjacent to the DHL Cargo Facility.  After parking, media should check in at the front door of the DHL Facility on the West side of the building.  All media wishing to attend this event must RSVP.

If media want to cover both the arrival and departure of Air Force One, they may not leave the tarmac in between the arrival and departure of Air Force One. They will have to stay on site at the airport until 2:35 p.m., when Air Force One departs.

President Obama Remarks on Health Insurance Reform

Media Pre-set: 7:30 a.m. CT to 8:30 a.m. CT (Equipment must be dropped at the site by 8:30 a.m. CT; media will not have access to the site from 8:30 a.m. CT to 11 a.m. CT.)
