MEDIA ADVISORY: Preview of new UIMA exhibit at IMU Black Box Theater

WHAT: Members of the news media are invited to a preview of a new exhibition by University of Iowa Museum of Art. "Two Turntables and a Microphone: Hip-Hop Contexts featuring Harry Allen's 'Part of the Permanent Record: Photos from the Previous Century,'" opens March 27 and remains on view through June 27 in the Black Box Theater at Iowa Memorial Union. The show features 40 large, black-and-white photographs by Harry Allen, Hip-Hop Activist and Media Assassin with the seminal hip-hop group Public Enemy.

WHEN: 1-2 p.m., Friday, March 19, 2010

WHERE: Black Box Theater, third floor, Iowa Memorial Union, UI campus

WHO: UIMA Interim Director Pam White and co-curators Deborah Whaley, UI assistant professor of American studies and African American studies, and Kembrew McLeod, UI associate professor of communication studies, will discuss the exhibition, answer questions and provide a tour.

NOTE FOR MEDIA: We will not have a mult box, so please bring your own microphone for recording the event and for individual interviews.
