June 28, 2010 UI named 'Best Buy' in new Fiske Guide
The UI is one of 21 public colleges from across the country selected as "Best Buys." These institutions fall into the inexpensive or moderate price category, have four- or five-star academic ratings, and have an excellent quality of life for students on campus. "Being recognized as a Fiske Guide Best Buy validates our efforts to provide an excellent education at an affordable cost," said Michael Barron, UI director of admissions and assistant provost for enrollment services. The Fiske Guide does not rank universities numerically but assesses the strengths and weaknesses of more than 330 colleges and universities in the United States, Canada and Great Britain. The guide says the UI is "…one of the most dynamic schools in the country – and one of the best values to boot. Iowa is known for breeding stellar nurses, future doctors and, of course, wrestlers." It adds: "Much more than a campus among the cornfields, Iowa boasts a beautiful university that is ever evolving."
