Radiothon raises $214,494 for UI Children's Hospital

STAR 102.5 KSTZ-FM of Des Moines raised $214,494 for University of Iowa Children's Hospital during its 12th annual radiothon May 27-28 that was broadcast live from UI Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Proceeds from the radiothon benefit UI Children's Hospital through Children's Miracle Network. Radio personalities Big Ken and Colleen hosted the broadcast that began at 5 a.m. Thursday, May 27, and ended at 6 p.m. Friday, May 28. Big Ken and Colleen shared the stories of patients and their families who receive care at UI Children's Hospital.

Elevenses Hour opens Iowa Summer Writing Festival to the public

The Elevenses Literary Hour opens the 2010 Iowa Summer Writing Festival to the public, with free presentations of interest to writers by festival faculty at 11 a.m. every weekday that the festival is in session, in Room 101 of the University of Iowa Biology Building East.

Weeklong sessions of the Iowa Summer Writing Festival begin June 13, with weekly sessions every week through July 25-30, with the exception of Independence Day week.

Elevenses presentations might include aspects of craft, of process, of the writing life or of publishing. There will be a different presenter each day. Fridays in the Elevenses series are reserved for faculty readings.
