Testing of outdoor warning system near UI Research Park set for July 2

At noon Friday July 2, there will be a 1- to 2-minute test of the Iowa City outdoor warning sirens for those on or near the University of Iowa Research Park. The test will be launched from the new Joint Emergency Communications Center under the direction of the Johnson County Emergency Management Agency.

The brief test is being performed to confirm the operation of an upgrade to the Iowa City sirens.

In the event that threatening weather is in the area on Friday, the test will be postponed until noon Saturday, July 3, said Dave Wilson of the County Emergency Management Agency. A Code Red Reverse 911 notification call will go out to Iowa City residents at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 1, to remind them of the Friday test.

Only the Iowa City sirens and those owned by the University Of Iowa on the research park should go off. As a reminder, county-wide testing for the outdoor warning system will now take place on the first Wednesday of every month at 10 a.m. instead of the first Monday of every month at 9 a.m.
