University of Iowa receives ADDY awards

University of Iowa marketing and communication projects have earned a string of ADDY awards from the American Advertising Federation of Cedar Rapids-Iowa City.

The awards recognize creative excellence in advertising and promotional materials. Winners were announced at the annual ADDY Awards Gala Feb. 20 in Cedar Rapids.

The university received the competition's top honor, the Best of Show Award, for "One Year After," an online annual report documenting recovery and renewal after the 2008 flood. The report also received Best of Category honors for interactive media and an ADDY Gold Award.

University Relations staff developed the report for the Office of the President. Project staff included Wendy Brown, Christopher Clair, Sondra Cue, Madelaine Jerousek-Smith, Lin Larson and Tim Schoon. The report is online at http://www.uiowa.edu/annual-report-09.

Other top awards included Judges Choice, Best of Category (sales promotion), and Gold awards to IMU Marketing and Design for Orientation lunch box packaging. Maura Cunningham, Sarah Lenger, Jessica Heacock and Babcor Packaging produced the project.

IMU Marketing and Design also received Best of Category (collateral) and Gold honors for its "47 Things" poster created by Sarah Jane Potter, Dan Sweeney and Nancy Abram.

Additional Gold Awards went to UI departments and outside agencies that developed projects for the University:
--University of Iowa Health Care; "Changing Medicine. Changing Lives."; annual report.
--Tru Art Color Graphics, "Building a Masterpiece: Legacy of The UI Museum of Art," book.
--IMU Marketing and Design, Homecoming campaign.
--IMU Marketing and Design, "Impact at Iowa: Creating Social Change," poster.
--University Relations, "Daffodil," photograph by Tim Schoon.

Silver ADDYs included:
--Amy Belice Graphic Design, UI Pomerantz Career Center annual report.
--Tru Art Color Graphics, UI Tippie College of Business MBA Program brochure.
