UIMA@IMU closed at various times over winter break

The University of Iowa Museum of Art’s on-campus visual classroom, the UIMA@IMU, will be closed at various times over the winter break. The gallery space will be closed Dec. 18-20; Dec. 23-27; Dec. 31 through Jan. 3; and Jan. 8-17, at which time new art objects will be installed.

Located in the Iowa Memorial Union’s third floor Richey Ballroom, the temporary art venue opened in 2009 after the flood displaced the UIMA’s 12,000 piece permanent collection. The space houses 250 objects from Africa, China, Japan, Tibet, and the Ancient Americas, as well as 20th-century European and American ceramics, conceptual art, and figurative art and has served as a resource to UI students.

Other temporary locations housing works from the UIMA's permanent collection will remain open during this time. The Figge Art Museum in Davenport is currently displaying the UIMA's ongoing exhibition “A Legacy for Iowa: Pollock's Mural and Modern Masterworks from the University of Iowa Museum of Art” and the newly installed “Selections from the Stanley Collection,” featuring African art from the UIMA permanent collection.

College of Law offers U.S. attorneys educational credit for class in London

A University of Iowa law course offered during spring break in London will be eligible for Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credit for alumni who want to travel and attorneys practicing in England who want to maintain U.S. law licenses.

The class, International and Comparative Family Law, will provide CLE credit toward those attorneys’ licenses in several states. Many state bar associations require members to participate in classes and other professional development programs to keep them abreast of changes in the law as a requirement for license renewal.

The UI College of Law will market the course to lawyers in the United States and American lawyers in Europe and will work to obtain CLE approval in relevant jurisdictions.

The class runs March 12-19 at the university’s classroom facility in London. Attorneys may attend all four days or choose days that interest them or are relevant to their practice. Sessions will examine English family law, international divorce, children’s abduction and relocation, children’s rights and international adoption.

Experts will give guest lectures, including David Hodson and other experienced international family lawyers at the International Family Law Group in London.

Registration is open through Jan. 28. Space is limited. More information at http://www.law.uiowa.edu/alumni/cle/.
