MEDIA ADVISORY: Orientation begins for UI international undergraduate students

WHAT: Orientation will be held for the anticipated 500-plus international undergraduate students who will arrive on the University of Iowa campus, coordinated by the UI Office of International Students and Scholars in UI International Programs, in collaboration with staff from other offices across campus. Sessions will include academic preparation, immigration and an immunization clinic and social events such as a hoedown, an ice cream social and a picnic.

Other sessions will touch on learning about Iowa weather, banking and financial management in the United States and personal safety. Orientation for the estimated 300 graduate international students arriving was held earlier, though some of the social orientation activities are for both undergraduates and graduate students.

WHEN: Saturday, Aug. 14 through Thursday, Sept. 16

WHERE: Various locations across campus, including in the International Commons of the University Capitol Centre (UCC) in the Old Capitol Town Center, the Iowa Memorial Union, the Pappajohn Business Building and other locations. WHO: Scott King, director of the UI Office of International Students and Scholars, and other UI officials will welcome the record-breaking class of new international undergraduate students with an opening program and lunch from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 15 in the Iowa Memorial Union Main Ballroom.
