Hawkeye alumni athletes, coaches, broadcasters to appear at Iowa State Fair
Hawkeye fans and fair-goers will have a chance to meet and reminisce with former athletes and broadcasters at the 2010 Iowa State Fair Thursday, Aug. 12 through Sunday, Aug. 22.
These "Hawkeye Heroes" will be at the University of Iowa exhibit in the Varied Industries Building on the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines.
Former UI football and track standout Tim Dwight (football 1994-1997; track 1996, 1998-1999) will be in the booth from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 15. At the time Dwight graduated, he held Big Ten records for punt return yardage (1,102) and punts returned for touchdowns (5). He also holds current Hawkeye records for career receiving yards (2,271) and career receiving touchdowns (21). His senior year he was a consensus All-American and finished seventh for the Heisman Trophy. He played in the NFL for 10 seasons, 1998-2007. A NFL career highlight was his 94-yard kickoff return touchdown for the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl XXXIII.
Dwight also was Big Ten Champion in the 100-meter dash in 1999 and was the 1999 Big Ten Champion in the 4x400 meter relay, the 4x100 meter relay and the 1998 Big Ten Champion in the 4x100 meter relay.
UI head basketball coach Fran McCaffery will also visit the UI exhibit at approximately 2:45 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14. Introduced as head coach of the Hawkeyes on March 29, McCaffery is the only coach to lead three different programs from traditional one-bid leagues to the NCAA tournament. McCaffery has coached for 25 years at the Division I level and has a career 251-178 (.585) coaching record.

Also appearing at the UI State Fair exhibit will be Iowa Spirit Squad with Herky from 5-9 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 12 through Saturday, Aug. 14; and Sunday, Aug. 16, 1-5 p.m. Herky will also be at the exhibit from 6-8 p.m. Friday Aug. 20.
Visitors will also have the chance to win tickets to UI athletic events and to sport their school pride with Hawkeye temporary tattoos and football posters. Many trophies won by UI athletic teams will be on display at the fair, including the FedEx Orange Bowl, Floyd of Rosedale, Heartland Trophy and the wrestling NCAA Championship trophy. The neighboring Hawk Shop will be open, selling Hawkeye merchandise for fans of all ages.
