UI to run Spanish-language ad on Univision

The University of Iowa will begin advertising in Spanish on televisions across Iowa this week to reach the families of the state's growing population of Hispanic high school students and their families.

The 30-second TV spot, "La Experiencia Iowa," which has the same images and message as its English-language counterpart ("Experience Iowa"), will run throughout August on Iowa Mediacom cable TV systems that carry Univision.

Michael Barron, UI director of admissions and assistant provost for enrollment management, says the commercial is part of university-wide efforts to increase diversity.
 
"As is the case with the Spanish sections of our Admissions web site, (http://www.uiowa.edu/admissions/espanol), we are reaching out to the Spanish-speaking parents of Hispanic/Latino Iowa high school students, who represent the fastest-growing segment of K-12 enrollment in Iowa schools," Barron said. "We just want to make them more aware of UI as a possibility for college."
