UI Residence Halls honors Lose

loseDan Lose, a University of Iowa sophomore from Rochester, Minn. received the 2009 George L. Droll Award for his contributions in improving the quality of life for students living in UI Residence Halls.

He received the award at a presentation ceremony Nov. 20 in the George Droll Lounge in Currier Hall. Along with a certificate, Lose received a $1,000 credit on his university bill to be used to offset tuition.

Lose, a pre-nursing major, lives in Hillcrest Hall and likes the sense of community living with hundreds of other students. "You meet a lot of new people and have numerous opportunities to get involved in different organizations," he said.

He works at Carver-Hawkeye Arena as a Crewhawk doing routine maintenance for the athletics department. He also plays intramural football and basketball with a group of friends and volunteers at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics each week.

The Droll Award is presented annually to the student in a UI residence hall who models good citizenship and helps build community among hall residents. Nominations are accepted from resident students and residence hall staff. The Droll Award honors the man who joined UI's Department of Residence Services in 1960 and served as its director from 1980 until his death in 1995.
