Hancher presents a cappella sensation Straight No Chaser on Dec. 8 in IMU

A cappella group Straight No Chaser will perform on Tuesday, Dec. 8 at 7:30 p.m. in the Main Lounge of the Iowa Memorial Union on the University of Iowa campus. The event is part of Hancher's 2009-2010 season.

Founded at Indiana University in the mid-1990s, Straight No Chaser burst onto the scene in 2006 after a video of the group's quirky take on "The 12 Days of Christmas" collected more than 8 million views on YouTube. As a result of that success, the group was signed to Atlantic Records.

Holiday Spirits, the group's first CD, was a favorite of the 2008 holiday season. In late summer, the group released Six Pack, an EP featuring covers of popular songs, including a mashup of Jason Mraz's "I'm Yours" and "Somewhere Over the Rainbow."

In early November, the group released "Christmas Cheers" and the album debuted at No. 11 on the Billboard holiday chart. Christmas Cheers includes original arrangements of holiday favorites like "Let It Snow," "I'll Be Home for Christmas" (featuring Des Moines native Tyler Trepp), and "Jingle Bells."
While on campus, the members of Straight No Chaser will give a master class for singers in a cappella groups made up of UI students.

The event is supported by the Hancher partners and gifts to Hancher Circle through the University of Iowa Foundation.

Tickets are $28; college student $10; senior citizen $25.20; youth $19.60 from the Hancher Box Office.

The Hancher Box Office, now located on the first floor of the south end of the Old Capitol Mall near the parking ramp, is open for phone 319-335-1160 or 800-HANCHER or walk-up business from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays. Tickets may be ordered online at Any remaining tickets will be available for sale one hour before show time at the Iowa Memorial Union near the Main Lounge.
