At A Glance

Burgers and Blues begins June 16

Looking for a new place for lunch this summer? Then check out Burgers and Blues, an outdoor event at the Iowa Memorial Union's Hubbard Park. The event begins on Tuesday, June 16, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. University of Iowa community and visitors are invited to come out and enjoy grilled favorites and free live music.

The Diplomats of Solid Sound will play Tuesday, June 16; Friday, June 19; Wednesday, June 24; and Tuesday, June 30 when Campus Cafes will be grilling from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Menu items include burgers, veggie burgers, brats, chicken and more. Burgers and Blues will continue Tuesday, July 7; Friday, July 10; and Tuesday, July 14. 

The band Dead Larry will be performing at Burgers and Blues on Friday, July 17, and Tuesday, July 21.

Burgers and Blues is sponsored by the Iowa Memorial Union and will held at Hubbard Park on the south side of the Iowa Memorial Union in a tent. The IMU is located at Madison and Jefferson streets in Iowa City.


Local high school guidance counselors appointed to UI advisory board

Mick Angel, Kate Schiek, and Amy Wine, guidance counselors at Harlan Community High School, Emmetsburg High School, and North High School in Davenport, respectively, were recently appointed on the University of Iowa's Office of Admissions' High School Counselor Advisory Board.

Angel, Schiek, and Wine are among 15 select high school counselors on the board, which was formed in 1991 to advise the UI Office of Admissions on various issues related to the college admissions process. The board meets on the UI campus twice a year, in April and September.

"We look forward to working with Amy, Kate, and Mick and know that they will be effective in helping us make the admissions process easier for students," Michael Barron, assistant provost for enrollment services and director of admissions.
