UI WISE program awards travel grants

The University of Iowa Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) program has announced fall semester award recipients of its Dr. Eunice Schuytema Beam Travel Grant Program.

The award winners will each receive $300 toward travel to a professional meeting to present scholarly work. With Iowa listed first, they are:

IOWA

Coralville: Kelley Foreman, a doctoral student in the Graduate College who is studying biology in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, delivered an oral presentation, "The Signal Between the Initiation of Recombination and the First Division of Meiosis," at the Yeast Genetics and Molecular Biology meeting in Toronto, Ontario, Canada July 22-27, 2008.

MARYLAND

Millersville: Heather Russell, a doctoral student in the Graduate College studying mathematics in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, will deliver an oral presentation, "Crossingless Matchingsand the Springer Representation, at the Joint Mathematics Meetings," Jan. 5-9, 2009.

OHIO

Shadyside: Jessica Graham, a doctoral student in the Graduate College studying chemical engineering in the College of Engineering, delivered an oral presentation, "Co-Delivery of Cationic Polymers and Adenovirus Enhance Tumor Protection in a Murine Model of Prostate Cancer," at the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) Annual Meeting in Philadelphia Nov. 16-22, 2008.

TURKEY

Ankara: Talia Tokyay, a doctoral student in the Graduate College studying civil and environmental engineering and specializing in hydraulics in the College of Engineering, delivered an oral presentation, "A Large Eddy Simulation Study of High Reynolds Number Gravity Currents Propagating Over Dunes, at the Riverflow 2008 - International Conference on Fluvial Hydraulics" in Cesme-Izmir, Turkey, Sept. 3-5, 2008.
