MEDIA ADVISORY: Men in Engineering help build Habitat house May 2

WHAT: Residents of the UI College of Engineering's Men in Engineering Living/Learning Community will participate in a Habitat for Humanity volunteer homebuilding activity to benefit a community family.

WHO: About 40 members of Men in Engineering (located in Burge Residence Hall), as well as UI College of Engineering Dean Barry Butler, Associate Dean Alec Scranton, and Director of Admissions & First-Year Experience Jane Dorman.

WHEN: 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 2.

WHERE: 20 N. Main St., North Liberty.

BACKGROUND: Engineering student organizer Rohit Vuppuluri said that the goal of the event is to involve residents of the UI Men in Engineering Living/Learning Community in a community service event in which volunteers will help build a house for a local family. As college students, it is easy to forget about the local community since many students are not from the area, but when students participate in activities such as Habitat for Humanity, the community truly benefits, he said. The UI Office of Residence Life is sponsoring the event.
