'Road Warrior' to discuss a life on the road at Tippie College of Business

Frequent traveler Kathy Ameche has seen it all. From language barriers to lost luggage, Ameche has used her life experiences to launch a book series, product line, and even develop a way of life as a woman always on the move.

Ameche, chairman of The Ameche Group LLC, will discuss her life of travel at 10:30 a.m. Friday April 17 in Room W401 of the John Pappajohn Business Building. Admission is free and open to the public.

Ameche will talk about her path to success and literal roads traveled. Her best seller, "The Woman Road Warrior: A Woman's guide to Business Travel," will be discussed as women are increasingly become more traveled then before.

While traveling is stressful for everyone, Ameche's travels showed her that women face particular challenges.

"I want to help women especially with these obstacles," she said. "I started to notice that there are a lot of things I could write about that would help with the travel experience, as with tips and guidelines."

Ameche is a 1983 graduate of Tippie College and is an executive and corporate officer with more than 25 years of business experience. Throughout her career, Ameche has logged nearly 2 million miles of business travel, with many ups and downs that came along with them.

These lessons learned prompted Ameche to write her first book, "The Woman Road Warrior: A Woman's Guide to Business Travel."

Both Ameche and her book have been featured in The New York Times, The Washington Post, and American Way magazine. The book has been rated No. 1 several times on Amazon's bestseller list for business travel since its debut in 2005.

The book's great success led Ameche to write the sequel, properly titled, "The Woman Road Warrior: An Expert's Guide to Domestic and International Business Travel."

There is a difference between domestic and international travel, she said, with language barriers, visas and passport issues and other cultural boundaries. She said that the book breaks down everything and anything women may need to know when traveling domestically or internationally.

Ameche encourages every woman to read this book no matter what the reason for travel may be. She said that although originally written for the working businesswoman, anyone can find the books useful in dealing with any situation or encounter that may arise when traveling.

"Over the years I have become a mentor to the next generation," she said. "When I was getting started I never had a mentor, so I think that it is very important to be able to give guidance and inspiration."

Due to her books' success, Ameche started an accessory line for travelers called MicciMicci. This "fun, practical and stylish" line features treads (slip-on footwear) and bags and the Web site also serves as a place for travelers to visit and read about experiences and how this line has helped.

"I have spoken to numerous women about their travel adventures, issues and nightmares. Based on these stories the Micci accessory line was launched," she said.

Ameche produced the line in the hopes to help reduce anxiety when traveling, as the products help to keep any traveler organized and feel prepared, she said.
