MEDIA ADVISORY: Town hall meeting Sept. 23 for Ames Lab former workers

WHAT: Representatives of the University of Iowa-Former Worker Program will hold a town hall meeting to discuss the Ames Laboratory and its critical role in the Manhattan Project in the 1940s, chemical exposures at this facility, and possible health effects of these exposures. Researchers also will discuss the availability of free medical screenings and the Department of Labor-Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program (EEOICP)

WHEN: 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008

WHERE: F.T. Brown Auditorium in the Ames Public Library, 515 Douglas Ave. in Ames, Iowa

WHO: Laurence Fuortes, M.D., UI professor of occupational and environmental health and director of the UI-Former Worker Program; former Ames Laboratory workers also will provide comments and testimonials.
