The Diplomats of Solid Sound to perform on 'Java Blend' Sept. 12

The Diplomats of Solid Sound, Featuring the Diplomettes will perform live as part of the Iowa Public Radio performance series Java Blend at noon on Friday, Sept. 12, at the Java House in downtown Iowa City.
 
Since the release of their single "Bullfrog Boogaloo" in 2001, The Diplomats of Solid Sound have drawn influence from artists like Jimmy Smith, James Brown, and Booker T and The MGs. They now have three full-length releases.

The free show originates from WSUI-AM 910 at the University of Iowa and will be recorded for broadcast Saturday, Sept. 27 and Sunday, Sept. 28, across the state on Iowa Public Radio. For broadcast times and stations go to http://iowapublicradio.org./

Oct. 4 workshop can help children who stutter and their families

An all-day workshop will be held Saturday, Oct. 4, at the University of Iowa Wendell Johnson Speech and Hearing Center for children and teens who stutter, along with their families and professionals who treat the condition.

The deadline for early registration is Sept. 20. Adults who stutter also may enroll.

The event includes lunch and is co-sponsored by Friends-National Association of Young People Who Stutter and the UI Department of Communication Disorders and Sciences.

Continuing education units are available for qualified professionals. Hotels rooms are reserved at the Comfort Inn, 209 W. 9th St., in Coralville. The deadline for making room reservations is Sept. 20.
