UI Theatre Department to hold spring production auditions Oct. 13-14

The University of Iowa Department of Theatre Arts will hold auditions for its spring semester productions, starting Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 13 and 14, at its current home in Brewery Square, 123 N. Linn St. in Iowa City.

Because of the closure of the arts campus following the record floods in June, the Theatre Department does not have access to its usual facilities during the fall semester. Many of the department's activities have been temporarily relocated in Brewery Square.

General auditions will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13, and 7 to 11 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14. Individual shows will conduct callbacks from Wednesday through Sunday, Oct. 15 through 19. All auditions will be held on the second floor of Brewery Square, above Devotay restaurant.

Shows to be cast will be:

--"Kid Simple" by Jordan Harrison.
--"No Good War" by Tali Ariav.
--"White Elephant" by Tony Meneses.
--"Painted Skin" by Joe Luis Cedillo.
--"Comicus Rex" by Adam Miller.
--"The House of Grateful" by Sheela Kangal.
--"The Superior Story" by Corey Homewood.
--"Born to be Wild" by Alex Scott.
--"Life of Miles Davis" by Ethan Henry.

Plays in the Ten-Minute Play Festival and the New Play Festival will hold separate auditions.

All are welcome to audition. Visit http://wiki.uiowa.edu/display/theatre/Home for additional details and to sign up for a timeslot. Sign-ups will begin at noon on Monday, October 6th.

Auditioners should prepare one or two monologues, with the total audition time not to exceed three minutes. Auditioners may also sing a song a capella or with a CD, but none of the shows to be cast requires a musical audition in the first round. Please bring a headshot or recent photo. Instant photos may be purchased for $1.50.

Descriptions of the individual plays will be posted on the Web site. Perusal scripts are available in the Theatre Department main office in Brewery Square. For more information, contact Becca Tritten at 335-0078.

The Department of Theatre Arts is part of the Division of Performing Arts in the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
