University Housing recognizes students, programs, organization

University of Iowa Housing recognized several outstanding students, programs, and an organization in UI's residence halls Friday, April 25 at the second annual Golden Dome Awards. 

This year's ceremony featured a keynote address from Matt Finnegan, a 1996 UI graduate and former resident assistant for the department.

Mayflower Community Resident Student Organization (MayCo) was recognized as the Hall Association of the Year.  Associated Residence Halls recognizes one residence hall student association that excels in programming, member recruitment, and resident-association interaction. 

Several residents won awards from the Office of Residence Life, which are anonymously selected by student representatives from each hall. Those recognized in a variety of categories included:

Iowa

AMES: Katie Jo Sloter, Social Program of the Year, for helping organize a ski trip for residents.

CORALVILLE: Sarah Michaelson, Social Program of the Year, for helping organize a ski trip for residents.

DECORAH: James O'Hollearn, Community Service Program of the Year, for organizing a Halloween canned food drive; Social Program of the Year, helping organize a ski trip for residents.

DES MOINES: Lauren Adams, Diversity Program of the Year, for organizing a belly dancing program.

DUBUQUE: Kikki Abba, Returning Resident Assistant of the Year

DYERSVILLE: Kimberly Kluesner, First Year Student of the Year

WATERLOO: William Heathershaw, Community Service Program of the Year, for organizing a Halloween canned food drive

Illinois

ALGONQUIN: Danielle Silva, Educational Program of the Year, for organizing "Five Love Languages."

PLAINFIELD: Ben Davis, New Resident Assistant of the Year

Michigan

KALAMAZOO: Justin Machnik, Student of the Year

Minnesota

VADNAIS HEIGHTS: Jim McGurran, Social Program of the Year, for helping organize a ski trip for residents.

Texas

PEARLAND: Julie Brasefield was honored with the Brooke Walton Resident Assistant Spirit Award. In memory of Brooke Walton, a Resident Assistant who tragically lost her life in 2005 while returning from spring break, the Resident Assistant Council recognizes a current Resident Assistant who embodied the spirit of Brooke Walton. 

In addition to the scholarship and awards recipients, University Housing recognized student employees' years of service to the department during the ceremony.
