University Housing awarded scholarships

University Housing awarded seven scholarships to University of Iowa students in the residence halls at the second annual Golden Dome Awards, Friday, April 25.

This year's ceremony featured a keynote address from Matt Finnegan, a 1996 UI graduate and former resident assistant for the department.

The scholarship recipients were:

Iowa

CLINTON: Senior Brianna Horwath and junior Kyle Jacobson each won a $750 scholarship sponsored by Residential Dining and funded by the primary vendor Hawkeye Food Service in Iowa City. Applicants for this performance-based scholarship are required to write two short essays and be in good academic standing.

MUSCATINE: Sophomore Amanda Strong won a $750 scholarship sponsored by Residential Dining and funded by the primary vendor Hawkeye Food Service in Iowa City. Applicants for this performance-based scholarship are required to write two short essays and be in good academic standing.

WATERLOO: Sophomore Danielle Hastings won a $750 scholarship sponsored by Residential Dining and funded by the primary vendor Hawkeye Food Service in Iowa City. Applicants for this performance-based scholarship are required to write two short essays and be in good academic standing.

Illinois

BARRINGTON: Sophomore Marc Zider received the $900 David Coleman Scholarship, named for a former University Housing staff member. Coleman championed the cause of students who needed and deserved a second chance and encouraged them to achieve in spite of obstacles. This scholarship is awarded annually to a residence hall student who has overcome adversity to be successful at the UI.

Washington

BOTHELL: Junior Natalie Chadwick received the George L. Droll Award. This award was established in 1995 in honor of Droll, University Housing Director from 1980 to 1995. Droll devoted his career to enhancing the living and learning environment in the residence hall system at the UI. Chadwick also won a $750 scholarship sponsored by Residential Dining and funded by the primary vendor Hawkeye Food Service in Iowa City. Applicants for this performance-based scholarship are required to write two short essays and be in good academic standing.
