Registration under way for volunteer conference

Registration is under way for Strengthening Community Partnerships with Volunteers, scheduled for 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday, May 16 in the Iowa Memorial Union on the University of Iowa campus. The conference, presented by the Volunteer Administrators' Network of Johnson County, will provide information and networking opportunities for organizations working with volunteers.

The event will begin with a keynote speech by UI President Sally Mason. Other speakers come from the UI and surrounding counties. Sessions will cover a wide range of topics, including dealing with conflict, electronic recruiting, cultural competency, active meetings, marketing, strategic planning, and living a balanced life.

Iowa Youth Ballet performs 'Swan Lake' May 17 and 18

The Iowa Youth Ballet, a community outreach program of the University of Iowa Department of Dance, will perform Tchaikovsky's "Swan Lake," staged by artistic director Sarah Barragan after the choreography of Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov, at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 17, and 3 p.m. Sunday, May 18, in the Space Place Theatre of UI North Hall.

Tickets are $12 ($6 for students) and may be purchased in advance through May 16 from the Iowa Memorial Union Box Office. In addition to window sales at the Iowa Memorial Union, the University Box Office may be reached by phone at 319-335-3041 or toll-free 800-346-4401. The fax number is 319-335-3407. Hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday. In addition to cash and checks, the University Box Office accepts MasterCard, Visa, American Express and Discover cards.

Any remaining tickets will be on sale at the door.

North Hall is located at the north end of Madison Street, and parking is available in the North Campus Ramp.
