Gallagher named interim director of UI Research Park

Diane Gallagher of Washington, Iowa has been named interim director of the University of Iowa Research Park and BioVentures Center both part of the IOWA Centers for Enterprise.

As interim director, Gallagher provides day-to-day management and operations of the park and Technology Innovation Center business incubator, as well as attracting, creating and retaining science and technology companies to the park.

In fall 2008, she will be overseeing the management of the new BioVentures Center life sciences business incubator when it opens.

Previously, Gallagher was director and assistant director in the UI Office of Corporate Partnerships. Before coming to the UI, she was manager of marketing services at UroSurge, Inc. a former park and Technology Innovation Center tenant, and was business development manager at the Iowa Biotechnology Corporation, also an Innovation Center tenant.

Gallagher has an M.B.A. from St. Ambrose University and a Bachelor of Business Administration from the UI. She serves on the Iowa Biotechnology Association Board and is a member of the Association of Business and Industry and Technology Association of Iowa.

UI researcher honored with national injury prevention award

John Lundell, deputy director of the University of Iowa Injury Prevention Research Center (IPRC), received the Ellen R. Schmidt Award from the State and Territorial Injury Prevention Directors Association at the national organization's annual dinner held April 22 in Oklahoma City.

The award recognizes an association member who develops and/or implements an outstanding statewide injury prevention program or provides outstanding service to the association. Lundell is also the association's treasurer.

The UI IPRC is one of 12 Centers for Disease Control and Prevention-funded Centers of Excellence in injury control research. Since joining the IPRC in 1994, Lundell has contributed to numerous injury-related research and public policy initiatives, and leads the center's outreach program. Lundell is active in several other injury and emergency health professional organizations.

UI Dance Gala feature for the Big Ten Network will be previewed May 9

"Performing Iowa: Dance Gala," the University of Iowa's first original non-sports cable-TV program for the Big Ten Network, will be screened at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 9, in the auditorium of UI Art Building West.

This sneak preview screening is free and open to the public.

This 45-minute feature focuses on the 2007 Dance Gala, produced by the Department of Dance and performed in Hancher Auditorium. The Dance Gala is the dance department's major annual production, featuring the UI Dance Company performing works by faculty and guest choreographers at one of the nation's leading dance venues.

Art Building West parking is available west of the building and across Riverside Drive at the Theatre Building.

The Department of Dance is a unit of the Division of Performing Arts in the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
