UI cancels Hawk Alert

March 24, 2008 (updated February 25, 2010 3:42 PM )

Iowa City Police have located what they believe is the vehicle of the suspect in an off-campus shooting. The tan, Toyota van was located on Interstate 80. When discovered, the van was on fire with a body inside. The fire has been extinguished. Positive identification of the van and passenger has not been confirmed; however, University of Iowa Police believe that there is no longer any need for the UI campus to be on the alert.

A Hawk Alert was issued earlier this morning because of a shooting incident that occurred in Iowa City. UI Police said there never appeared to be any threat to campus, but they were assisting Iowa City Police in locating the vehicle that the suspect was believed to be driving at that time.
