Hygienic Laboratory's Shirazi receives "Most Patriotic Employer" award
Dari Shirazi, program manager of information technology at the University Hygienic Laboratory (UHL), received a "Most Patriotic Employer" award on behalf of the laboratory during ceremonies May 8 at the Iowa National Guard Armory in Cedar Rapids.
Iowa's Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve program gives the award to companies and agencies that provide extraordinary support for military duty by members of their staff. John Schlenker, an information technology support technician at UHL, currently serves in the United States Naval Reserve and nominated Shirazi and the laboratory for the award.
'German Foreign Policy under Chancellor Merkel' focus of June 26 luncheon
Klaus Rupprecht, director of the Canadian Center for German and European Studies at York University in Toronto, will present "German Foreign Policy under Chancellor Merkel" at a noon luncheon of the Iowa City Foreign Relations Council Thursday, June 26, at Rockwood Fellowship Hall, Congregational Church, 30 N. Clinton St. in Iowa City.
The Red Avocado will cater the event. Reservations are $7.50 for council members and $8.50 for nonmembers. The deadline to register is noon Thursday, June 19. For those unable to attend, WSUI-AM 910 will carry the program at 9 p.m. Sunday, June 29, on the Iowa Public Radio network.
