Aug. 1 ceremony to honor Doctor of Nursing Practice graduates
Seven members of the inaugural class of the UI College of Nursing Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree program will be honored at convocation ceremonies at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 1, in the Levitt Center for University Advancement. The students have completed coursework and will graduate this summer.
The DNP is a clinical doctorate that prepares advanced practice nurses for leadership roles by educating them in evidence-based practice, economics, finance and policy.
Hovenkamp receives Justice Department honor for antitrust work
University of Iowa law professor Herbert Hovenkamp has been named the recipient of the 2008 John Sherman Award from the U.S. Department of Justice for his contributions to the teaching and enforcement of antitrust law and protection of American consumers.
Hovenkamp, one of the nation's leading antitrust scholars, has written or contributed to more than 120 articles and books about antitrust law and competition, and is the lead author of the casebook Antitrust Law. He also worked as an advisor to the state attorneys general who successfully sued Microsoft, claiming it held monopoly power.
The award, presented by the Justice Department's Antitrust Division, is named form John Sherman, the Congressman who sponsored the Sherman Act of 1890, the nation's first and foremost antitrust law.
