'Excitement is Building' for Homecoming 2008 festivities

University of Iowa alumni are invited to celebrate Homecoming 2008 Friday and Saturday, Sept. 26 and 27, when a full slate of festivities is sure to bring back memories of great times on campus.

Registration has begun for the celebration, sponsored by the University of Iowa Alumni Association (UIAA) and several UI colleges. Alumni will have the opportunity to participate in a full range of social, educational and spirit-building events. The student members of the Homecoming Executive Council have chosen this year's theme, "The Excitement is Building ...," to reflect the excitement of UI's up-and-coming football team, and also as a reflection of their philanthropic involvement with Habitat for Humanity.

On Saturday, Sept. 29, the Hawkeyes will take on Northwestern at 11:05 a.m. in the homecoming football game. Returning alumni are eligible to purchase up to six tickets online from a block of tickets reserved on behalf of the University of Iowa Alumni Association. Football tickets are $50 each, and alumni should register soon, as tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine will welcome the return of graduates from the classes of 1973, 1978, 1983, 1988, 1993 and 1998, as well as Carver College of Medicine Iowa Minority Medical Alumni. Reunion events will also be held for College of Pharmacy and College of Dentistry graduates. The College of Engineering will welcome alumni to their annual Homecoming Tailgate Open House. Tippie College of Business graduates will be welcomed back at a cookout during the pre-parade barbeque on Friday evening. College of Liberal Arts and Sciences graduates are welcome to attend the "Saturday Scholars" program.

The Alumni Association tailgate is scheduled to begin two hours prior to kickoff. Also, several UI colleges will be hosting tailgates and events throughout the weekend. For a complete list of events, visit http://www.iowalum.com/reunions/hrw/. The registration deadline for College of Medicine, the UIAA-hosted All Alumni Tailgate, and football ticket purchases is Sept 19.

The UIAA welcomes the Alumni Band back to campus for Alumni Band Reunion 2008. Past members of the Hawkeye Marching band return to campus to march in the homecoming parade and perform in the pre-game show at the Iowa vs. Northwestern football game. --Sports Night, from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, at the UI Athletics Hall of Fame. Alumni and their families can meet current UI athletes and relive Hawkeye sports history.
