Blues legend B.B. King performs in Hancher Feb. 7
Blues legend B.B. King will perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, in the University of Iowa Hancher Auditorium.
The concert comes just before the Feb. 19 release of the CD/DVD "LIVE!", recorded at B.B. King's blues clubs in Nashville and Memphis in Oct. 2006.
It has been estimated that the "King of the Blues" has played more than 10,000 shows in a career spanning nearly 60 years. Since he began recording in the 1940s, he has released more than 50 albums.
King was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987, and in 2003 Rolling Stone magazine ranked him No. 3 among the "100 Greatest Guitarists Of All Time."
In 2006, he was presented the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest honor awarded to a civilian; his 1964 album "Live at the Regal" was voted into the Grammy Hall of Fame; and he won his 14th Grammy Award, for Best Traditional Blues Album, for "B.B. King & Friends: 80," which had celebrated his 80th birthday the previous year.
He won eight previous Grammys in that category, as well as the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. His hit recording of "The Thrill is Gone" is in the Grammy Hall of Fame.
The B.B. King concert in Hancher is sponsored by Ian and Deborah Bullion and Insurance Associates, a TrueNorth Company, through the University of Iowa Foundation.
