UI Children's Hospital offers weight management for teens

Specialists with University of Iowa Children's Hospital are now enrolling participants in a weight management program for overweight adolescents in grades 7-12. "SHAPEDOWN: Just for Teens" is a weight-management program specifically designed to help heavy teenagers. Parents and their teens entering grades 7-12 are invited to join.

The program will be offered Tuesday and Thursday evenings, beginning April 1. The program consists of 10 twice-weekly sessions. A physician referral and a nonrefundable enrollment fee of $180 are required prior to beginning the program. For more information see http://www.uihealthcare.com/healthyweight or call 319-384-7900.

An orientation session for the program is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, in the UI Family Care Center conference room on the lower level of the Pomerantz Family Pavilion at UI Hospitals and Clinics.

Registration begins for UI summer youth entrepreneurship camps

Applications are now being taken for the University of Iowa's summer Youth Entrepreneur Camp and Jacobson Entrepreneurship Academy in Iowa City and Des Moines. The day-long camps teach elementary and junior high aged children the skills they need to start and develop a business.

The Youth Entrepreneur Camp is for students in grades four through six and will be held at the Pappajohn Business Building on the UI campus July 7-11. The Jacobson Entrepreneurship Academy is for students in grades seven through nine and will be held July 14-18 at the Pappajohn Business Building in Iowa City, and from July 28 to Aug. 1 at the Pappajohn Higher Education Center in Des Moines.

Registration for both camps is $139 for applications received before April 25 and $159 afterward. The fee includes class materials, snacks, lunches, graduation reception, bus tours and a t-shirt.

The Nadas to perform on 'Java Blend' March 7

Iowa's premier acoustic rock quartet The Nadas will perform live as part of the Iowa Public Radio performance series Java Blend from noon to 1 p.m. Friday, March 7 at the Java House in downtown Iowa City. The hour-long, free show originates from University of Iowa radio station WSUI-AM 910 and will be recorded for broadcast Saturday, March 22 and Sunday, March 23 across the state on Iowa Public Radio.
