Learn to support veterans 'from combat to classes' at Feb. 27 conference

The University of Iowa Veterans Center invites UI faculty, staff and other interested individuals to an interactive audio conference titled "From Combat to Classes: Serving Veterans with Disabilities in Higher Education" from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27 in Room 102 of the UI Center for Disabilities and Development, 100 Hawkins Drive.

Thomas E. Church, disability manager of the University of California, Merced, and certified rehabilitation counselor, will present the program, which is sponsored by the UI Veterans Center and the UI Center for Disabilities and Development at UI Hospitals and Clinics with funding from
the UI Office of the Registrar.

The conference aims to provide expert guidance for disability service providers, registrars, enrollment management officials, student affairs advisors, mental health counselors, campus security officials, deans and faculty to develop and implement policies that address the multifaceted challenges of educating former soldiers.

UI student job and internship fair features diverse opportunities Feb. 28

The UI will hold its spring job and internship fair from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28 in the Iowa Memorial Union Main Lounge. The free event, hosted by the Pomerantz Career Center, will feature more than 140 employers offering information about internships and jobs for current students during the school year or summer, or for soon-to-be graduates.

In addition, students may obtain interviews with select companies for the day after the fair by entering their resume and other information in the career center's Expo database in advance, or by getting a direct invitation from an employer at the fair.

More than 1,500 students are expected to attend the fair, which brings in employers from companies across the nation. New this year are McDonald's, Supervalu Inc., Sprint, Verizon Wireless, Marriott International and Discover Financial Services. Women's Wellness and Counseling to hold opening event Feb. 28

UI Health Care leaders and staff invite the public to attend the official opening of the new Women's Wellness and Counseling Service from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, in the Melrose Conference Center, Rooms 1 and 2, located on Level 5 of the Pomerantz Family Pavilion. Parking is available in Hospital Ramp 4. Elevator "L" will provide access to the event. Refreshments will be provided.
