Carmichael named to advisory board of Chinese university
Greg Carmichael, Karl Kammermeyer Professor of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering in the UI College of Engineering, and co-director of the Center for Global and Regional Environmental Research (CGRER), has been named to the advisory board of a major Chinese university.
While attending the Beijing Forum in November, he accepted a four-year term as a member of the new International Advisory Board for the College of Environmental Sciences and Engineering, Peking University.
Also in November, Carmichael was named to a five-member, United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) team that will issue a February 2009 "environmental report card" for the 2008 Olympic Games.
Singer-songwriter Anna Laube scheduled for Jan. 2 'Java Blend' show
Native Iowa singer-songwriter Anna Laube will kick off Iowa Public Radio's "Java Blend" performance series in 2009 with a free, live performance at noon Friday, Jan. 2, at the Java House in downtown Iowa City.
Born in Iowa City, country/blues/ Americana artist Laube began taking piano lessons at the age of 3. She took up saxophone, oboe and violin in secondary school, and picked up the guitar at age 14. Laube moved to California after college to pursue gainful employment, but soon hit the road to perform her original music. She recorded her debut album, "Outta My Head," in San Francisco area living rooms.
The show originates from WSUI-AM 910 at the University of Iowa and will be recorded for broadcast on Saturday, Jan. 17 and Sunday, Jan. 18 on Iowa Public Radio.
