MEDIA ADVISORY: Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing 'white coat' ceremonies
WHAT: Ceremonies welcoming incoming University of Iowa medical, nursing and pharmacy students and their families
--UI Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine White Coat Ceremony: 4:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22, Macbride Hall Auditorium.
UI President Sally Mason and Paul Rothman, M.D., dean of the college, will give welcoming statements. Rebecca Hegeman, M.D., clinical associate professor in the UI Department of Internal Medicine, will give the keynote address. The medical students will be ceremonially cloaked with their first white laboratory coats and recite the Oath of Hippocrates.
--UI College of Pharmacy Welcome to the Profession Ceremony: 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, Marriott Hotel and Conference Center, Coralville.
Donald Letendre, dean of the college, will welcome the students. Kelly Kent, a 2003 UI pharmacy graduate and manager at Pharmacy Matters in North Liberty, and Michael Kelly, associate dean for academic affairs, also will offer remarks. After receiving their white laboratory coats, the pharmacy students will recite the Oath of a Pharmacist.
--UI College of Nursing B.S.N. Beginnings event: 10 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, UI Medical Education and Research Facility (MERF)
Rita Frantz, the Kelting Dean and professor in the college, will address the students. UI Provost Wallace Loh and Kathleen Hanson, the college's associate dean for academic affairs, also will offer remarks. The nursing students then will receive their white lab coats.
