'Know the Score' April 18 will feature the music of Robert Schumann

The music of Robert Schumann will be featured on the radio program "Know the Score LIVE!" 5-7 p.m. Friday, April 18. The program will be broadcast from the University of Iowa Museum of Art's Lasansky Gallery and the Nancy and Craig Willis Atrium.

The program, part of the monthly arts and humanities series hosted by Joan Kjaer, can be heard at that time on radio station KSUI, 91.7 FM (101.7 FM in Dubuque) and KHKE, 89.5 FM in Cedar Falls/Waterloo. It will be rebroadcast 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 19, on the Iowa Public Radio classical network, including KSUI and KHKE as well as WOI, FM 90.1 in Ames/Des Moines.

The program will begin with Shari Rhoads, coach-accompanist for the UI Martha Ellen-Tye Opera Theater. Rhoads will discuss "Opera and Meatballs," an upcoming event that will benefit both the UI Museum of Art and the School of Music. To be held 7-10 p.m. Sunday, April 20, "Opera and Meatballs" will offer Italian fare from Chef Mickey's Catering in Iowa City and performances by students in the opera program.

John Tibbetts, producer of the radio series "The World of Robert Schumann" will be a guest on "Know the Score LIVE" for the discussion of that composer's music. An associate professor in the Department of Theatre and Film at the University of Kansas, Tibbetts is also known as a scholar of film music.

Also appearing on the program will be pianist Uriel Tsachor, bassoonist Benjamin Coleho and the Maia String Quartet from the UI School of Music, who will participate in the discussion and perform Schumann's music.

The UI Alumni Association is the corporate sponsor of "Know the Score LIVE!" broadcasts. Refreshments are provided by the Prairie Table.

The UI Museum of Art, located on North Riverside Drive in Iowa City, is open noon to 9 p.m. Fridays. Admission is free to the museum and to the "Know the Score LIVE!" broadcast. Public metered parking is available in UI parking lots west and north of the museum.
