Dick Prall, Bob Dorr and The Blue Band will perform on 'Java Blend'

Singer-songwriter Dick Prall will perform live as part of the Iowa Public Radio performance series "Java Blend," at noon Friday, Oct. 5, and Bob Dorr and The Blue Band will play at noon Friday, Oct. 12.

The public is invited to be part of the live audiences for the shows at the Java House, 211 E. Washington St. in downtown Iowa City. The hour-long shows originate from the University of Iowa's radio station WSUI-AM 910.

The Chicago Sun Times wrote of Iowa-bred and Chicago-based Dick Prall that his music is "smart, introspective and filled with great hooks." He has been compared to lyricists including Buddy Holly, John Lennon and Elvis Costello. The singer-songwriter's latest album, "Weightless," has been called "a box of chocolate for your ears" by Performing Songwriter Magazine.

Prall's Oct. 5 performance will be broadcast on Iowa Public Radio Saturday, Oct. 20, and Sunday, Oct. 21.

Started in 1981 in Cedar Falls, Bob Dorr and The Blue Band is noted for its blues, soul, rockabilly and rhythm. Dorr was inducted into the Iowa Rock 'n' Roll Music Association Hall of Fame in 2000 and the Iowa Blues Hall of Fame in 2006.

The Oct. 12 performance will be broadcast on Iowa Public Radio Saturday, Oct. 27, and Sunday, Oct. 28.

Hosted by Ben Kieffer, "Java Blend" offers an eclectic mix of live music from the vibrant independent music scene featuring artists from around the state and country. Kieffer infuses the performances with lively discussions about the artists' music and lives.

"Java Blend" is videotaped for several TV broadcasts on the UITV cable channel in the Iowa City and Cedar Rapids area. The audio version can be heard worldwide on the Internet via Iowa Public Radio stations' live Webcasting.
