MEDIA ADVISORY: News briefing Sept. 14 from international clubfoot symposium

WHO: Experts on clubfoot and families whose children have been treated by the Ponseti method for clubfoot foot, which affects nearly 1 million children each decade. Scheduled speakers from the International Clubfoot Symposium include:
-- Jose Morcuende, M.D., Ph.D., associate professor and physician, UI Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation in the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine and UI Hospitals and Clinics;
-- representative to be determined, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention;
-- James W. Hanson, M.D., director, Center for Developmental Biology and Perinatal Medicine, National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, National Institutes of Health;
-- Ignacio Ponseti, M.D., professor emeritus of orthopaedics and rehabilitation, UI Carver College of Medicine and UI Hospitals and Clinics.
Experts will make brief remarks, followed by a question-and-answer session and opportunities for one-on-one interviews.
Families whose children have been treated with the nonsurgical clubfoot treatment known as the Ponseti Method are scheduled to be available as well for interviews and photos. Journalists also may request to attend symposium events.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The annual Ponseti Races will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, in the Exhibition Hall at the Marriott.
