Alumni Association sponsors 'Beat Iowa State Week' at UI

The best intrastate football rivalry in the Midwest is the Iowa/Iowa State game Saturday, Sept. 15, and the University of Iowa Alumni Association (UIAA) is encouraging fans to show their Hawkeye pride during "Beat Iowa State Week," which started Sept. 10.

"Beat Iowa State Week," an initiative of Students Today, Alumni Tomorrow (S.T.A.T) Ambassadors, will feature online contests, giveaways, discounts and more. Fans can test their Hawkeye football knowledge by entering an online trivia contest at; contestants who receive a perfect score will be entered to win a $50 gift certificate to the UI Book Store.

"Beat Iowa State Week" started at 12:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, by the Iowa Memorial Union (IMU), where the S.T.A.T Ambassadors gave away 400 "Beat State" T-shirts. Black and Gold Day on Tuesday included the S.T.A.T blood drive in the IMU, at which blood donors received a "Beat State" T-shirt.

Events continue Wednesday, Sept. 12, with Crazy Fan Day. Hawkeye fans spotted by the prize team will receive more Hawkeye gear and will be entered to win a $100 gift certificate to the UI Book Store. Fans can also pick up free prizes and pop on the Kautz Plaza, west of the Pappajohn Business Administration Building, from 11 a.m. to noon.

On Thursday, Sept. 13, there will be free corn-on-the-cob from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the IMU Patio during the IMU's Burgers and Blues. The S.T.A.T blood drive will continue from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the IMU. All registered donors will receive a "Beat State" T-shirt. Register at

The week will end with S.T.A.T Ambassadors distributing T-shirts at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, on Madison St. by the IMU.
