UI community urged to be vigilant on Sept. 11 anniversary

University of Iowa Department of Public Safety Director Chuck Green sent the following message to the University of Iowa community in a mass e-mail Monday, Sept. 10:

To the University community:

The University of Iowa and a number of other higher education institutions across the nation received anonymous e-mail bomb threats Monday, Sept. 10. Because the most recent e-mails received by the UI offered no specific information about a time or place, UI Police believe they are hoaxes. However, because Tuesday is the anniversary of the tragedy of Sept. 11, 2001, all faculty, staff, students and visitors are urged to be vigilant today and through the rest of the week.  If you see any suspicious item on campus, stay away from it, leave the area and call 911 immediately.

If you have any information that might be helpful in the investigation of these threats, please call the UI Police at 319-335-5022.
