UI expands 2 Plus 2 Transfer Plan to include Western Iowa Tech students

The University of Iowa recently welcomed Western Iowa Tech Community College (WITCC) and its approximately 5,000 students to the University of Iowa's 2 Plus 2 Guaranteed Graduation Plan.

Under the plan, UI advisors can help WITCC students select the right courses to receive an Associate of Arts degree in two years at WITCC and successfully transfer to the UI, where they can earn a bachelor's degree after just two more years, guaranteed.

"Western Iowa Tech and the University of Iowa have established a great partnership to help students reach their educational goals," said Matt Thomsen, dual admissions representative at WITCC. "The 2 Plus 2 program solidifies that partnership by providing students another excellent opportunity to advance their education."

The addition of WITCC marks the university's continuing efforts to make the program accessible to students at all Iowa community colleges. More than 1,000 new transfer students from Iowa community colleges transferred to the University of Iowa in 2006-07.

Earlier this year, the university also announced a new $1,000 scholarship for incoming 2 Plus 2 students with the highest grade-point averages.

Students are encouraged to enroll in the 2 Plus 2 plan during their first year of community college study in order to appreciate the degree-planning assistance of Iowa advisors in the program. However, prospective community college students still in high school also are encouraged to investigate the plan's potential to save them time and money.

In addition to early advising, 2 Plus 2 participants enjoy access to UI library and career-planning resources and discounted admission to select UI cultural and athletic events with their UI student ID.

WITCC offers more than 60 credit programs ranging from auto mechanics to veterinary assistant on campuses in Sioux City, Cherokee, and Denison, Iowa.

The UI offers degrees and certificates in more than 100 areas of study on its Iowa City campus.

The 2 Plus 2 plan is currently available to students in select majors, including business, psychology, and social work. The UI soon will add all Iowa community colleges and more Iowa majors to the plan.
